Sandro Botticelli

Sandro Botticelli painted his famous “Primavera” series, also known as “Spring,” after he returned to Florentine from Rome in 1482. A cousin of Lorenzo de Medici commissioned the work as a celebration of de’ Medici’s marriage in that same year. The painting is a visual tribute to the arrival of spring and is ripe with mythological symbolism. It is a series of four panels that make up the whole of the work. “Primavera” hung in the bedchamber of the Florentine palace. So taken was he with the painting, de’ Medici became one of Botticelli’s most loyal patrons. Source: Italian-Renaissance-Art.com
